Charles Swegles has an extensive and
diverse business background. Currently, he is the co-publisher and
vice president of the Santa Barbara Daily Sound, a free 5 day-a-week
community newspaper.
His work experience includes the following: He is on the Board of
Directors of Conano Corp., a Carpinteria company with patented nanotechnology
that improves the characteristics of powder coatings. He was recruited
as one of the core members and team leader of EverythingOffice.com,
an Internet retailer startup that expanded to 180 employees nationally.
He held a principal position and participated in sales,
marketing and business development for Mammoth Financial Services
Corporation, an automated collection service for commercial credit.
He was market development manager for Alliance Manufacturing Software,
a Santa Barbara-based company, which was at one time rated one of
the fastest growing software companies in the U.S.
As president and co-founder of Atsoft, Charles initiated an agreement
with Microsoft to develop multimedia titles on CD-ROM. He negotiated
agreements with AT&T, Micron Computers and Kinko’s to
create information dissemination techniques for sales, marketing,
product training and instruction.
Charles helped modernize Westerlay Roses, Inc., Carpinteria,
CA. As chief information officer at We Care Corp., pharmaceuticals
and products distribution, Charles was
responsible for a substantial customer base increase through acquisitions
of competing companies.
He also implemented information systems to improve
customer service and sales. At OTEC Corp., a San Francisco, Hong
Kong and Santa Barbara company, where he was a principal partner,
his primary function was selling investment properties to global
investors. He managed projects and joint ventures.
And, he was one of the founders of Alpha Catamarans, a Santa Barbara
boat designer and builder that became Nacra Catamarans.
Charles Swegles has an AA degree from Diablo Valley College and
was a business major at University of California, Santa Barbara,
CA. He studied computer science at Bryant & Stratton College,
studied cultural anthropology and Spanish at the University of the
Americas, Mexico City, D.F. He also studied at Millard School.
Charles served his country in the US Army as a MASH
unit surgical technician and medical instructor. He has continued
his education in sales and marketing, e-Commerce, business development,
computer systems and software as well as other personal and professional
interests. He is the father of two and has founded SAC Projects,
a 501(c)(3) organization of volunteer seniors who mentor children.
